Christ Centered Baptist Church believes that music is a gift from God to be used for His glory (Colossians 1:16). The goal of the music ministry at CCBC is to be God-honoring and sacred in its presentation. Our services comprise of much congregational singing where we utilize the hymns of the faith. You will participate in singing such songs as My Hope is in the Lord, Saved by the Blood, Love Lifted Me, And Can It Be, among others. Occasionally, special music is brought before the message is preached. Several specials include such songs as He Gave Himself, People Need the Lord, Weeping Will Not Save Me, and It’s My Desire. There are four basic principles that guide our philosophy in music:
1. In the area of vocal music, special attention is given to insure that the text is appropriate to a godly testimony. This includes both content and literary style (Colossians 3:16; Ephesians 4:29, 5:4).
2. Performance techniques reinforce the message of the song and avoid sensuality or the glorification of the performer. In other words, we seek to minister through music to others and not to perform for them (1 Corinthians 10:31).
3. We do not borrow from certain styles of music and specifically avoid music that sounds like rock, rap, country and western, new age, and jazz (I John 2:15).
4. Songs or styles, which are strongly identified with unbiblical movements or worldly practices, are avoided (Romans 12:1, 2). We do not wish to lead our congregation toward music which is questionable or which might violate believers’ consciences. However, we do wish to “follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.“ (Romans 14:15-19).
